Carolina Takes on Grade Inflation

Article at the NYT.

This is a problem that just has to be solved. It's utterly ridiculous. Would people buy Consumer Reports if all products, from the excellent to the mediocre were always given the highest rating? What the hell kind of rating system is that? Why this is tolerated at universities is beyond me.

Would people buy bonds if all-- never mind.

But it does seem like the two types of rating inflation come from a similar place. It would just be so dreadfully impolite to suggest that some students might not have a flawless, A-grade understanding of a subject, never mind to imply that certain investments might be overvalued. And impoliteness is one thing that simply cannot be brooked.
