Battlestar Galactica--Not Firefly--Contains a Republican Message [spoiler alert]
After Serenity came out, there was a lot of talk on right-wing blogs about how Firefly had a conservative/libertarian message. They were probably--though not definitely--wrong about that. But Republican themes--harkening back to the election of 2000--have just turned up in Battlestar Galactica. Laura Roslin has just won an election as a result of ballot shenanigans.
On the other hand, Roslin's the good guy.
So that's different.
Though maybe now she'll order an attack on Stargate: Atlantis to retaliate for the Cylon attack on the colonies...

First, for the gods' sake, use a frackin' spoiler alert for those of us who Tivo the frackin' show. So say we all.
Second, you left out the important part. She couldn't go through with it and was ultimately relieved to go back to being a schoolteacher.
Third, Al Gore is no Gaius Baltar, no matter what the Republican's say.
President Roslin:
1) Deeply in thrall to religious interests.
2) Governs, in part, through her adherence to scriptural prophecy.
3) Enjoys a close relationship with the military, members of which were willing to aid her power-grab.
4) Recently outlawed abortion.
5) Summarily executes captured prisioners without trial.
Gaius Baltar:
1) Arrogantly convinced of his own infallibility.
2) Has a sordid history of friendship with our enemies.
3) Blind stubbornness and certainty to 'stay the course' (on colonization) even when everyone who knows anything about it can tell it's a bad idea.
4) Ignores warnings of possible attack until it's too late.
5) Breezes through briefings, because they're boring.
Christ, it's like watching the two halves of Bush's brain fight.
Frak it.
They're both Republican.
